Is spray tanning safe?
Each person's skin is different and has the potential to react with the airbrush solution. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to self tanner in the past, it is possible you will have a reaction. The active ingredient in Norvell Solutions is Dihydroxiacetone (DHA). DHA is a simple sugar that has a chemical reaction with the keratin in your skin cells. When this chemical reaction occurs, the result is a darkening effect.
Is spray tanning safe for pregnant women?
There has been no research on the use of airbrush tanning in pregnant women. We do strongly recommend consulting with your doctor prior to booking an appointment. Mystical Tans does offer nasal filters and mask to reduce the amount of solution inhaled. Please make sure to tell your airbrush technician if you are pregnant prior to the start of your appointment.
what to do before my spray
Exfoliate.
This is the most important step when preparing for your custom airbrush tan! 24 hours before the day of your airbrush tan, use an exfoliating glove or loofah with an exfoliating body scrub. Make sure the scrub is free of mineral oil. This step removes any dead skin that can cause streaking or uneven color.
Timing.
We recommend getting your custom airbrush tan 48 hours before an event. This allows your tan proper time to darken.
Shaving and Waxing.
It is best to shave or wax a day in advance before receiving your custom airbrush tan. This ensures there are no waxy build ups left on your skin.
Deodorant and Make-Up.
Avoid wearing deodorant or make-up if possible to your airbrush tan appointment. Deodorant can react with the DHA in the spray solution and cause the skin to turn a greenish hue. Make-up will also block the solution from reaching the skin.
Lotion
It is best to avoid applying any type of lotion to your body prior to your airbrush tan. A barrier cream will be applied to your hands before your airbrush tan.

What to do
after my spray tan
Loose Clothing.
Wearing loose clothing after your airbrush tan is extremely important. This prevents your clothing from rubbing on your skin while your airbrush tan darkens.
24 Hours.
It is ideal to wait 24 hours before showering after your airbrush appointment. The minimum time to wait before showering is 8 hours.
Moisturize.
Keeping your skin moisturized is vital to keeping your airbrush tan looking fabulous. Applying lotion to your entire body after each shower will help your airbrush tan last 5-7 days.
when should i book my airbrush tan
Vacation.
Mystical Tans recommends getting your airbrush tan the night prior to leaving for vacation. This will allow your tan to last the longest for your trip.
Wedding.
Mystical Tans recommends getting your airbrush tan 2 days prior to your wedding. This allows for you to have time to shower and the tan to achieve proper color. We also strongly recommend doing a trial tan 2-3 weeks prior to your wedding week.
FDA Recommendations
The FDA has advised that all users of DHA spray tanning services avoid inhaling or ingesting DHA. When using all-over sunless tanning sprays containing DHA it may be difficult to avoid exposure to sensitive areas including eyes, lips, mucous membranes or internally.
